Welcome to our Web Site

The Fellowship of St. Silas is a pan-Orthodox Christian prison ministry whose goal is to work in a unified way on behalf of those who are behind prison walls. The many prisoners to whom we minister across the country simply desire to pray, repent and be nurtured in their faith.

The Widow's Mite

Greetings in our Lord’s love!

I am amazed regarding how our Lord can take the "widow's mite" and reveal His glory and riches. For those of us who have been blessed with much have no idea of those who are blessed with little. "Julia", an inmate in prison, recently shared her widow’s mite with us. Julia sent us a check for three dollars. Not much for us, yet a dowry of God’s kingdom. Here is what she wrote:

widows-mite-l"It is always a blessing to my spirit and mind and heart to hear from you, though I don’t always have the stamps to write back. I am so blessed by God, and I am always praying for you and your family and ministry. I pray you are praying for me and my son, Mike. I have so much to thank God for to ever turn back and fall away, so I am very good at instant repentance, "Lord have mercy on me a sinner." Recently I had a surprise visit from my spiritual Mother. She blessed me with a few dollars, so I am sending you my widow’s mite for God’s kingdom and glory!!!"

Julia gave to us a gift beyond earthly treasure. Her gift to us represents the reality of 12 stamps she could have bought which reveals her joy of having a simple contact with someone who confirms. . .that she is loved. I have never questioned her regarding her confinement. She may never leave the prison she is in, yet she found a way OUT. . .a love for our Lord and repentance for her sins.

Please pray for Julia and the many prisoners we minister to. As I believe with all my heart; "Little is much, when Christ is in it."

May the beauty of heaven consume you. . .

Fr. David
