Christ is Born! Glorify Him!
"For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. His name will be called the Angel of Great Counsel, for I shall bring peace upon the rulers, peace and health by Him. Great shall be His government, and of His peace there is no end. His peace shall be upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order and establish it with righteousness and judgment, from that time forward and unto ages of ages. The zeal of the Lord of hosts shall perform this. (Isaiah 9:5,6)
Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and you shall call His name Immanuel." (Isaiah 7:14)
Good Morning!
These words were written 700 years before the birth of Christ. Every Jewish person looked for the return of their nation to the prosperity they once knew, but the kingdom of David would be no more. When the temple in Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 A.D., the Jewish people were scattered throughout the world.
The kingdom spoken through Isaiah was not a kingdom of man, rather, it was to be the kingdom of God. God does not rule through force. God's kingdom is revealed when Christ takes up residence in the manger of our heart. We are invited to share in His birth through our Baptism and surrender to the true King of all.
"Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, "Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!" But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David."
May the beauty of His birth consume you,
Fr. David
